Frequently asked questions
A referral is not required to book an appointment. You are welcome to contact Robyn to arrange a session.
However, if you have a referral and a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP or psychiatrist, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate. Please refer to the next question for further details.
If you are seeking treatment under Workers Compensation (WorkCover) or Compulsory Third Party (CTP) schemes, a referral from your GP is required, along with approval from your insurer. When approved, psychological sessions are typically funded by the insurer, meaning there are generally no out-of-pocket costs.
You may be eligible for a Medicare rebate if you have a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral from your GP or psychiatrist.
To access this, you will need to book an appointment with your GP to discuss your concerns. When making the appointment, it can be helpful to mention that you would like to discuss a Mental Health Treatment Plan, as a longer consultation may be required.
If appropriate, your GP will prepare a Mental Health Treatment Plan and provide a referral to a psychologist (Robyn Wright). With a valid plan and referral, you can receive a Medicare rebate for part of the session fee for up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year (in line with Medicare guidelines).
If you have private health insurance, you may be eligible for a rebate for part of your psychology session fee, depending on your level of cover. It’s best to contact your health fund directly to confirm whether psychology services are included in your plan and the rebate amount available.
Please note that you cannot claim both a Medicare rebate and a private health insurance rebate for the same session.
You’re welcome to contact Robyn directly to arrange an appointment. Robyn will briefly discuss your needs and suitability for the service and help organise a time that works for you.
No - you do not need to be an athlete. Sport and performance psychology can benefit anyone wanting to improve performance, whether in sport, school, work, or other areas of life.
Robyn has supported a wide range of individuals, including athletes, coaches, parents, students, dancers, business professionals, and others in high-performance environments. The focus is on helping you build skills such as confidence, focus, resilience, and effective coping to perform at your best.
Some people find it helpful to come prepared. You might think about what has been concerning you and how it is impacting your life - for example, your sleep, relationships, or work.
You may also like to consider what you hope to gain from therapy. Don’t worry if it’s hard to put things into words - Robyn will guide you through this process, and you will work together to clarify goals over the first few sessions.
Robyn works with individuals experiencing a wide range of emotional, psychological, and life challenges. The areas listed below are just some examples and are not an exhaustive list.
These may include anxiety and panic, social anxiety, stress and burnout, low mood and depression, adjustment to life transitions, grief and loss, trauma, emotional regulation difficulties, low confidence and self-esteem, relationship and interpersonal challenges, and parent–child relationship concerns.
If you’re unsure whether your concerns are something Robyn can support you with, you’re very welcome to get in touch to have a conversation.
Robyn draws on a range of evidence-based therapies that are supported by research and tailored to each person’s individual needs. Her primary approaches include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy.
She also integrates other approaches, including mindfulness, elements of Schema Therapy, and attachment- and trauma-informed frameworks. Therapy is collaborative and flexible, with the approach guided by your goals, preferences, and what is most helpful for you.
It’s very common to feel a little nervous about starting therapy. You’re welcome to share this with Robyn - being open about how you’re feeling can help make the process more comfortable. Robyn aims to create a calm, supportive, and respectful space where you feel safe to talk at your own pace. Many people find that, even after the first session, they feel some relief in having been heard and understood.
In the first few sessions, the focus is on getting to know each other. Robyn will take time to understand what you’re experiencing, your current challenges, and aspects of your life such as family, work, school, and wellbeing. She will ask questions gently and at a pace that feels right for you and may take notes to help guide your care.
As therapy progresses, you will begin working toward your goals together. Sessions often involve checking in on how things have been, exploring any challenges, and developing practical strategies to support you. Robyn may also share helpful information or skills you can use between sessions.
Over time, therapy can help you build a toolkit of strategies, develop greater insight into your experiences, and find more effective and meaningful ways of coping.
Standard sessions run for 50 minutes. Your initial appointment may take slightly longer (up to 60 minutes) to allow time for a thorough understanding of your needs.
Appointments are typically weekly or fortnightly to begin with, depending on your needs and preferences. This will be discussed together in your first session. As therapy progresses, the time between sessions may gradually increase as you build confidence and make progress.
Robyn primarily provides individual therapy and does not offer formal family or couples therapy.
However, she works closely with parents and caregivers, offering guidance and support around parenting, strengthening parent–child relationships, and managing behaviour. Robyn draws on approaches such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Circle of Security (COS), integrating these into individual sessions to support both parents and young people.
The number of sessions varies, as everyone’s situation is unique. Progress can depend on factors such as your goals, circumstances, and willingness to reflect and practise strategies between sessions.
Many clients attend around 10 sessions, though some may need fewer and others more. Some people also find it helpful to return for occasional “check-in” or maintenance sessions after completing therapy.
Once your appointment is booked, you will be asked to complete an online client details form and service agreement. If you have a referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan, please bring these with you to your first session.
Your GP or referring practitioner may also send your referral directly via HealthLink. You can refer to the Services and Fees section for more information about referrals, rebates, and private health insurance.
At times, Robyn may also ask you to complete brief questionnaires before or during therapy. These are selected based on your individual needs and can help build a clearer understanding of your experiences and guide your care.
Payment is processed securely via our online payment system following your appointment. Card details are required to be securely stored prior to your session, and we accept Visa, Mastercard, and AMEX. If you are eligible for a Medicare rebate, this can be processed electronically after your appointment, with rebates typically refunded directly into your bank account shortly after processing.
At least 24 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule an appointment. If less than 24 hours’ notice is provided and the appointment cannot be filled, the full session fee will be charged.
